Can Artificial Intelligence predict Heart Failure hospitalizations?

Heart Failure (HF) represents one of the most important cardiovascular syndrome with increasing morbidity and mortality. Hospital admission in HF significantly affects patients’ mortality risk and Quality of Life, also increasing the economic burden for the healthcare system. Early prediction of HF hospitalization risk could lead to timely intervention to avoid hospital admission. In a recently published review article in the European Heart Journal – Digital Health, Croon Pm., et al., review the existing literature on strategies and performance of AI -based algorithms for prediction and hospitalization in HF patients. The data and information presented in this review article are very promising, as there are studies indicating that longer-term prediction of HF hospitalization is feasible. It is also further discussed how the creative combination of various digital technologies could lead to a digital transformation in healthcare.
